Dave started flying in 1972 while at the University of Minnesota in Crookston. After the instrument and commercial ratings, he became a CFI in 1978. Also in 1978 he was hired as an ATC controller and worked in the tower at Duluth until 1981, when he went on strike with the PATCO controllers.
Dave didn't start flying again until 2007, when he met Cheryl Daml and decided to reinstate his flight instructor rating. He has now also completed his CFII checkride and is enjoying doing some instrument instruction. Dave is a member of the North Star Flyers club and looks forward to doing more instruction after he retires from his job as Building Operations Coordinator at St. Louis Park High School. In addition to flying, Dave enjoys fishing and snowmobiling. His fantasy airplane is the P51 Mustang, but he also really likes the club's Sundowner.
