Christine Killian has always had an interest in airplanes but didn't start flying until she was 30 years old. She started lessons in February of 2005 and has accumulated an impressive number of ratings in a very short time. She now has over 500 hours of flight time. One of her favorite flying experiences was her Discovery Flight, which was done on a whim. She was nervous at first about the small plane, but once airborne, she didn't want to come down. Christine used a sim extensively in her own training. She comments that aside from being more economical, the quality of training is better. As a trainee you can focus strictly on the procedures you want to practice, and your instructor can with the click of a mouse place you at any airport, in any weather conditions. She further comments that the sim allows you to practice emergency procedures that are unsafe in real life, such as heavy icing or engine failure at low altitude. Another advantage is no lesson cancellations due to bad weather! Christine also likes the ability to configure an appropriate panel for each type of airplane. There's no need to try to force a King Air and a C172 to fit the same panel. The Garmin 430 is an outstanding addition because it's a real GPS that is exactly the same as one installed in an airplane. Christine's favorite fantasy airplane is the Mitsubishi MU-2. Her favorite real-world airplane is a Piper Warrior with good avionics.
